Singapore Botanic Garden History
The history behind Singapore Botanic Garden dated back during Sir Stamford Raffles’ era. During that day, Singapore Botanic Garden acted as the evaluator of cultivation crops such as fruits, vegetables, spices to support the economic importance and was set up by Sir Raffles himself. After a while, Singapore Botanic Garden was granted 32 hectares of land in Tanglin and functions as a pleasure park. The concept was taken from an English style garden by Lawrence Niven and the current design is based mostly on his concept before being taken over by the government.
After that, entering 1900 was the first time for the rubber seeding in Singapore Botanical Garden. His major success brought a big impact for Singapore as it became the world’s producer and exporter of natural rubber.
