Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat (in literal meaning is The Four Kings) is an archipelago consisting of more than 1000 islands off the coast of West Papua province, the east part of Indonesia and four main islands, Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati, and Misool.

1. Scuba Diving and Snorkeling

The wonders of underwater in Raja Ampat has been the primary attraction for divers all around the world. 9.8 million acres of land and sea is home to more than a hundred types of corals, coral fish, and even mollusks. Diving in Raja Ampat will be the ultimate experience to see the most diverse coral reef and underwater life. The blue crystal-clear water will enable you to see seahorse dancing around you, schools of tuna fish, snappers, and Manta Rays swimming around you.

Turtle and the endemic wobbegong, a type of shark in this region will also be in your meeting list. The floor of the sea will be inhabited by clams, sometimes it may grow long up to 1 meter,  will give you an unforgettable experience. 2. Visiting Piaynemo Island

Behold the most iconic viewpoint of Raja Ampat, Piaynemo Island. The journey to Pieaynemo alone is enough to take your breath away because your boat will be surrounded by small islets.

Once your boat docked, go ahead to the stairs, which will take you only 10 minutes to reach the top. Once you reach the top, you will be greeted with the magnificent view of groups of small lush green islets with pristine blue water surrounding the islets, as if they are floating on a mirror.

3. Kayaking in Kabui Bay

Imagine a white sandy beach, with clean and clear pristine coastline, away from pollution and the crowd. All these privileges will be yours and you can explore it by kayaking. Gliding peacefully in Kabui Bay (Hidden Bay) is surely something you can’t miss.

Prepare yourself to see the wonders of dramatic formations of karst dividing tropical green jungle. Along the route, you will meet with birds of paradise above the ground, and underwater you will be met with exotic fish. If you’re lucky enough, you might also see dolphins. Take a kayaking tour for your convenience, and use the advice of the local people to go about.

4. Taste Local Culture in Arborek Village

Arborek Village is another must-go destination in Raja Ampat. It is a tourism village not far from Waigeo’s port where the local people live. Once you get there, you will be greeted with the warmest welcoming ceremony, including dancing, singing, and feasting on traditional food. This village also produces traditional crafts such us the iconic noken for you to bring home as souvenirs.

Getting to Raja Ampat

Getting to Raja Ampat from outside Papua isn’t pretty simple, the route is pretty long. No worries because the journey is so worth it! First, take a flight to Sorong, Papua. If you come from Jakarta, the direct flight will take about 4 hours. After you get to Sorong, take a taxi to the harbor, and it’ll take about 15 minutes ride. Once you reach the harbor, take a ferry to the main island of Raja Ampat which is Waigeo Island where the ferry stops.
